# Workload overview

### What is workload?

Workload is Wonderly's capacity planning view. It gives managers the one thing they need to deliver projects on time: a real-time picture of their team's actual capacity at any given point.

Every team member's scheduled tasks, calendar meetings, and out-of-office time are factored into a single view. You see who has room for more work, who is at capacity, and who is overloaded. View it by day or by week, and adjust the time horizon from 7 to 90 days depending on whether you are planning for this week or the next quarter.

This is how you resource plan accurately. When a new task needs to be assigned, you don't guess who is available. You see it. When a project deadline is approaching, you don't hope the team can handle it. You verify it. When a client asks for a realistic timeline, you give them one based on your team's actual bandwidth, not a best-case estimate.

### Start planning with workload data

* **Assign work based on real capacity.** You see exactly who has bandwidth before assigning a task. No more overloading your best people while others have room.
* **Make accurate promises to clients.** When a client asks for a timeline, you can check your team's actual availability and commit to something realistic.
* **Catch overload before it costs you.** When someone has more work than hours, you see it days before a deadline slips or a team member burns out.
* **Overdue work is visible immediately.** Past due tasks surface with visual indicators so you can escalate before a small delay becomes a project-wide problem.
* **Out-of-office is already accounted for.** Capacity adjusts automatically when someone is away. No more assigning work to people who aren't there.

### How It Works

#### Customizing your view

Workload adapts to how you need to see your team's capacity. Adjust the view to match your planning context:

* **Timeframe:** Set the date range from 7 to 90 days. Use a short range for weekly planning. Use a longer range to spot capacity gaps weeks in advance.
* **Filter by workspace** to scope the view to a specific team or department
* **Filter by project** to see workload for a single initiative
* **Filter by assignee** to focus on specific team members
* **Filter by custom field** to filter by department, client, or any metadata you track
* **Toggle weekends** on or off based on your team's schedule
* **Toggle out-of-office** to show or hide OOO time
* **Search** to quickly find a specific person

#### Drilling into the details

Click the chevron next to a team member's name to reveal every task and event scheduled for that person. See exactly what is filling their capacity without leaving the workload view.

Click the warning icon next to a name to surface all past due tasks for that person. Overdue work is flagged visually so you can escalate before a small delay compounds.

#### Saving views

Create multiple workload views for different planning scenarios. Team views are visible to everyone. Personal views are visible only to you. Use them to set up recurring views like "This week's capacity" or "Project X resource plan" without rebuilding filters each time.
