# Client portal overview

### **What Is the Client Portal?**

The Client Portal is a secure, project-specific space where your clients can view progress, complete assigned tasks, upload files, and communicate with your team. You control exactly which tasks and milestones they can interact with, and anything you haven't shared stays hidden from their view.

Instead of your team pushing updates out, clients pull the information themselves. That shift eliminates time spent writing status emails, chasing approvals, and recreating context for every conversation. Both sides work from the same live project, so there is no version of events, no missing context, and no question about what was agreed or when.

### **Why Use It?**

The Client Portal exists for one reason: so your clients always know where their project stands without having to ask you.

Every client wants to know what's happening with their project. That's reasonable. What isn't is spending hours every week answering that question manually.

Without a dedicated space for keeping clients on the same page, the information gap grows until it becomes a problem. Approvals slip, details get forgotten, and misunderstandings erode the trust your team built during the sale. Without a clear line between what's internal and what clients should see, someone on your team will eventually share something they shouldn't.

The Client Portal closes that gap. Your client opens their portal and sees exactly what you've chosen to share, updated in real time, without asking. You stay in control of what's visible, and they stay informed and involved, completing tasks, submitting files, and tracking progress without ever interrupting your team.

**Without a dedicated client space:**

* Status updates are written and sent manually, and they're already outdated by the time the client reads them
* Approvals happen across email threads, texts, and calls, with no centralized record of what was agreed or when
* Files arrive as attachments buried in inboxes, disconnected from the work they belong to
* Project delays build up quietly, and by the time they surface, the timeline is already off and the client has lost confidence

**With Wonderly's Client Portal:**

* Clients open their portal and see live progress without needing to ask
* Clients complete tasks directly in the portal, and every completion is timestamped and recorded automatically
* Files upload to the relevant task, organized and attached to the context they belong to
* Access to the Client Portal is built into Wonderly, so there's no extra subscription or integration to manage

### **How It Works**

**Secure Access via Email Invitation**

Clients receive a unique link by email, set their password, and land directly in their Client Portal. They only see the projects you've chosen to share with them, nothing else.

**Controlled Visibility**

You decide what clients see. When sharing a project, you can choose which milestones and tasks are visible to them. Anything you don't share stays internal and never appears in their portal. You can also toggle automatic sharing on or off, controlling whether new tasks appear in the client view as they're created or only when you manually decide to share them.

**Task Assignment and Completion**

You can assign tasks directly to clients inside the project. When they mark a task complete, it syncs back to your project instantly and is logged with a timestamp. No follow up needed, as the record is already there.

**File Uploads and Downloads**

Clients upload files directly to their portal, and everything lands in your Wonderly project instantly, attached to the right task. No need to chase attachments via email.

**Real-Time Communication**

Every comment a client leaves in their portal appears directly in the task activity feed inside your Wonderly account. All communication is centralized in one place, so nothing gets lost across email threads or separate conversations.

**Access Management**

You can add or remove individual clients from a project at any time from the project's modal. If you need to close access entirely, hitting Unshare removes access for every external user at once. Changes take effect immediately.

**Connected Across Wonderly**

The Client Portal is not a separate system. It's a controlled external view of your existing Wonderly projects, which means everything your team works on internally is the same data your clients interact with externally.

* **Shared Workspaces:** The Client Portal is only available for projects that live inside a shared workspace. Tasks and milestones you create in those projects are the same ones that appear in the client portal. Completions, comments, and file uploads sync in both directions instantly.
* **Wonderly Docs:** Wonderly Docs can be shared directly through the portal, giving clients access to the files they need without any back and forth.
